Why Write to Read?
My son was falling behind in school. He needed a more creative approach to reading than what he was getting in school. I knew I could teach him everything he was missing, if I customized his lessons to his interests. With that approach, he began to thrive. I soon found out there are lots of kids just like him. They’ve lost confidence in themselves because they’re struggling to read and write. But, it doesn’t need to be that way. Take it from my son- learning can be fun!
But who is Nancy Carr, MPA?
Besides being a parent to three wonderful young adults, I spent the last seven years as a FIVE star tutor with Varsity Tutors. During that time, I assisted kids and adults at every step of the writing process. My work primarily consisted of:

Teaching grammar and vocabulary to middle schoolers.

Teaching adults how to craft memos and presentations.

Teaching high schoolers reading comprehension and how to write effective essays.

Helping high schoolers navigate the SAT reading and writing sections.

Help craft college essays for high school seniors- from brainstorming creative ideas to proofreading their final products.
Prior to my tenure with Varsity Tutors, I worked in public relations for public and non-profit firms while attaining my Master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Colorado. And, before that, I received a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University in political science.
When I’m not reading or tutoring, I can be found skiing, hiking, and jogging the great state of Colorado with my two Labrador companions.
